Clinical documentation is the basis for determining the diagnosis-related group (DRG) and subsequently defining the resources that a patient will require. It also plays an important role in establishing risk scores and calculating the patients expected length of stay.

Each medical diagnosis of Scout criteria has clinical documentation improvement (CDI) suggestions. This way, when searching for a diagnosis not only will the provider know what needs to be documented for the inpatient status, but also how to maximize the supporting documentation.
